Mobile-First Indexing

What is Mobile-First Indexing?

With mobile-first indexing, the mobile crawler and mobile content are primary. Desktop-only content or divergent mobile experiences can hurt visibility.

Example: If mobile pages hide whole paragraphs of body copy that exist on desktop, Google may not index that text for ranking.

Why Mobile-First Indexing matters

Mobile-first indexing matters because Google predominantly uses your mobile experience; hidden or lighter mobile content means lost ranking signals.

How Mobile-First Indexing works in digital marketing

Serve equivalent content on mobile, test parity, ensure tap targets and readable fonts, and avoid interstitials that block content.
