Dwell Time

What is Dwell Time?

Dwell time is an informal UX signal: long dwell may indicate satisfaction; quick return to SERP may indicate dissatisfaction—though it is not a public metric in your analytics.

Example: User clicks your link, reads 6 minutes, never returns to Google—suggests the content satisfied the query.

Why Dwell Time matters

Dwell time matters indirectly as a user-satisfaction signal: quick returns to the SERP can indicate a poor match or UX. It should inform content quality—not be gamed with padding.

How Dwell Time works in digital marketing

Improve content depth, page speed, and layout; reduce intrusive elements that drive immediate back-clicks.
